IDFA welcomed two new staff members to its legislative team in August and September. Colin Newman joined IDFA as legislative affairs and political programs manager, and Katie Solomon joined as legislative affairs coordinator.

Newman will be responsible for managing the association’s Political Action Committee (PAC) and grassroots advocacy activities. He will also assist IDFA in organizing member visits to congressional offices in Washington, as well as congressional visits to member companies’ plants.

He comes to IDFA from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce where he served as the manager for corporate relations. Before that, he worked at Morgan Meredith & Associates, a fundraising firm on Capitol Hill, where he fundraised for members of Congress, PACs and nonprofits. Newman also led a grassroots effort as a field director for former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney during Romney’s 2012 presidential campaign. Newman earned a bachelor’s degree in management at Gettysburg College in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.

Katie Solomon

Solomon will be responsible for coordinating IDFA’s legislative resources and committee databases online. She also will assist the legislative team with fly-ins, administrative requirements and special projects.

Before joining IDFA, Solomon served as a press intern for Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) and was a field organizer for the Iowa Democratic Party where she campaigned for former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton during her 2016 presidential campaign. Solomon earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from Centre College in Danville, Kentucky.

Newman and Solomon will support the efforts of IDFA’s legislative team, led by Dave Carlin, senior vice president of legislative affairs and economic policy. The other team members are Tony Eberhard, IDFA vice president of legislative affairs, and Beth Hughes, IDFA director of international affairs.
