Alex MacFarlane

VP of Strategic Growth, Vanguard Renewables

Alexander MacFarlane, Vice President Strategic Growth at Vanguard Renewables, has over 20 years of biogas industry experience leading the implementation of transformative clean energy technologies. Alex has coordinated activities across technical, legal, financial, and operational areas. He currently leads Vanguard’s innovation activities and is charged with optimizing and enhancing the performance of existing and new operating biogas plant assets. Before joining Vanguard Renewables, Alex led the development of Anaergia’s East Coast biogas facilities as well as its wastewater treatment RNG program. He has held leadership roles in Innosepra and Harvest Power, has founded two companies and led development of Little Leaf Farms’ automated greenhouse facility in Pennsylvania.  Alex received his MS in Environmental Management and Policy from Lund University in Sweden. He has a BA in Environmental Biology from Columbia University. He holds two patents.
