Farmers to Families Food Box Program

On January 4, USDA announced Round Five of the Farmers to Families Food Box Program valued at $1.5 billion. According to USDA, funding to support the announcement “was included in the COVID-19 relief package as part of the Consolidated Appropriations Act passed December 21, 2020.” In the announcement today, USDA emphasized that "other hard, semi-hard or semi-soft cheeses" may be included in the program in addition to cheddar and other cheeses specifically mentioned in the solicitation. The expanded list of cheeses includes, “Blue, Brick, Colby, Edam, Gorgonzola, Gouda, Gruyere, Monterey, Muenster, Parmesan, Provolone and Romano,” according to USDA. IDFA has advocated for this expanded list of cheeses allowed in the program.

In this new Round Five, USDA will award contracts “to over 240 organizations that have previously received Basic Ordering Agreements (BOA). Solicitations to existing BOA holders are expected to be issued by the end of the week [Jan. 8, 2021], with contract awards expected to be made by January 19. Deliveries will begin shortly after awards are issued and continue through the end of April. Additional BOA proposals will not be reviewed nor accepted at this time.
