Carmen Moraru, Ph.D., an associate professor in the Department of Food Science at Cornell University, has earned the 2015 IDFA Teaching Award in Dairy Science in recognition of her outstanding teaching of undergraduate students in dairy foods. This is the second award she has received from IDFA in two years; in 2013 she received the Milk Industry Foundation’s Research in Dairy Foods Processing Award for her research program emphasizing dairy foods and food-safety engineering.

Moraru also was a featured speaker at IDFA’s NextGEN Symposium last fall, where she discussed how dairy processing is evolving.

Since 2003, Moraru has been teaching a course on Unit Operations and Dairy Foods Processing, which applies general food-science principles to dairy foods processing. She also taught the Dairy Chemistry section of Food Chemistry at Cornell, as well as courses and laboratories on dairy processing at the University of Galati in Romania. She earned the Excellence in Teaching Award twice from the Cornell Institute for Food Science.

Moraru received the IDFA award this month at the annual meeting of the American Dairy Science Association, an international organization of educators, scientists and industry representatives.
