WASHINGTON, September 7, 2023—The International Dairy Foods Association (IDFA) announced today it has joined the steering committee of the Food and Agriculture Climate Alliance (FACA). FACA consists of more than 80 organizations representing farmers, ranchers, forest owners, agribusinesses, manufacturers, the food and innovation sector, state governments, sportsmen and sportswomen, and environmental advocates. The organizations have come together to develop and advance shared climate priorities.
“IDFA is pleased to join other dairy organizations, agribusiness groups, and environmental advocates who support innovative and voluntary solutions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, increase carbon sequestration and storage, build resilience to the changing climate, and drive sustainability across the supply chain,” said IDFA ESG Director Mike Aquino. “According to surveys of IDFA dairy processor members, approximately 75% are actively investing in sustainability efforts and managing sustainability risks, demonstrating U.S. dairy’s continued leadership on climate and sustainability priorities facing our planet. IDFA members are investing in expertise across their supply chains and taking strategic action to conserve energy, re-use water, and reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. In addition to producing high quality and highly nutritious dairy products day in and day out, IDFA member companies are changing their business practices to consciously consider impacts on people and the planet. We look forward to partnering with FACA members to advance climate policies that are voluntary, market-based and scientifically sound.”
