In the 2021 Consolidated Appropriations Act, Congress directed the USDA to develop the Dairy Donation Program to reduce food waste and provide healthy and nutritious dairy products to low-income families and individuals. Under the program, eligible dairy organizations partner with non-profit organizations in their communities that distribute food to low-income individuals. The program reimburses qualifying partnerships for certain expenses related to dairy product donations.
Emily DeBord, Senior Marketing Specialist in the Promotion, Research and Planning Division of USDA’s AMS Dairy Programs, presented and answered questions about how the Dairy Donation Program works and how IDFA’s members can participate.
